Top 5 Ski Resorts in Europe - Travel Fun Trips

At the height of summer, it?s pretty pleasant to dream of speeding through a spectacular snow valley where the air is fresh and the sky is clear. But most people are too sun-struck to actually put their pipe dreams into practice. So while everyone else is soaking up the sunshine, the rest of you can scoot in and scoop up the best ski deals. Which is why this is the best time to plan your ski trip for next season and beyond.

With a whole host of ski packages on offer for groups, lone wolves and everyone in between, ski holiday hunting is a tough ask. Here is a condensed catalogue of resort recommendations (all available on resort-finder Crystal Ski) to help you on your merry way.

Yllas, Finland

The kingdom of the reindeer awaits you in the glorious Yllas. Inspirational landscapes, remote piste locations and of course the Northern lights make this resort one of the most popular destinations for the hipster set seeking a different sort of ski experience. Holidays in Lapland are easier to book than ever. Flights operate?from?three different UK airports, and many tour operators will throw in husky sledding and snowmobile safaris with your lift pass.

Gstaad

Who would have thought that Julie Andrews, Elizabeth Taylor, Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly of Monaco, plus actor Roger Moore and director Roman Polanski would all have one thing in common? Only a world class resort with ample opportunities for star spotting and schmoozing could keep them all coming back for more. Once there, the whole of the ?Super Ski Region?, which encompasses 250km of trails, is yours.

Chamonix

It?s chaotic and crammed full of adrenalin junkies, but the young and the restless just keep returning to this notoriously rammed resort. There are five mountains to choose from, all with excellent off-piste possibilities so you needn?t feel stuck on the piste portion you plumped for.

Zermatt, Switzerland

Skip over to Zermatt between early November to mid-May and you?ll be delighting in buckets of snow. Although off-piste areas aren?t widely available here, the crazy cats will be content with 15km of mogul runs and Swedish tequila girls for laidback leisure time.

Cortina, Italy

Every bit as classy as Corcheval and St Moritz, but without the price tag, skiing doesn?t get much more glamourous than Cortina. Rumour has it that 70% of Italian tourists don?t come here to ski. So it?s safe to say you?ll be doing a fair amount of people-watching while you?re waiting for the chair lift, which won?t be for long, lift queues are wondrously short.
