Slain taxi driver's family demands justice | Zambia Daily Mail

THE family of a 22-year-old taxi driver, Gideon Kunda who was killed in Serenje last Saturday, has demanded justice over the death.
Mr Kunda?s mother, Lydia, said in an interview here that her family is at pains to accept her son?s death especially that he left behind his wife, Sheila, with a nine-month pregnancy.
Mrs Kunda said her son was a humble and peaceful person.
?I can?t say they (suspects) should be killed but justice should prevail?only God will judge,? Mrs Kunda said.
On Monday,? police in Serenje arrested Kennedy Muwowo, 30, Moses Simfukwe both of Serenje and Ronald Swakwi, 37, of Nakonde in connection with the murder of Mr Kunda.
The three have been transferred to another police station within Central Province following the Tuesday riot in which some police officers were assaulted by irate residents.
The suspects were also found with K18, 507, 500 cash suspected to be proceedings of crime.
Mrs Kunda said her son could have been killed for ritual purposes because his body had cuts in some sections and some teeth were missing.
She said she last saw her son on Saturday before 17: 00 hours and that they started looking for him on Sunday as he did not return home as he usually did after finishing business.
?We know he will not come back but we don?t want to see the people who killed him to continue walking freely. They should be arrested and prosecuted so that they do not kill any more people,? she said.
Meanwhile, calm has returned to Serenje after the Tuesday riots that rocked the district following the grisly murder of Mr Kunda.
Several shops which were closed on Tuesday and Wednesday along Ng?answa road and at the main market started operating on Thursday and the residents were going about their businesses normally.
Police in Serenje, who have been joined by their colleagues from Mkushi, Kapiri Mposhi and Kabwe, are still keeping vigil in case of any disturbance.
And Serenje district commissioner Charles Mwelwa also confirmed the situation returning to normal in Serenje.
Mr Mwelwa said police have arrested about five people in connection with the Tuesday riot.
?We are all aggrieved but police should be left to do their work. We know that there have been reports of ritual killings in the past but this should not lead to riots as the case was on Tuesday,? he said.
Police are yet to charge the three suspects as they are still investigating the matter.
